Dr. Michael Civin’s three decade psychology career

Dr. Michael Civin

Although he first graduated in 1968 from Harvard College -- earned an A.B. degree with cum laude honors at that time -- it was 20 years later that he officially began medical practice in psychology. During that two-decade period, he earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of Oregon as well as a second M.A. and his Ph.D from the Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University. The latter education occurred in the mid-1980s with Dr. Michael Civin completing his Ph.D in clinical psychology in 1988.

Following approximately five years of postdoctoral work toward his certificates in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, Dr. Michael Civin moved into the psychology field professionally. This was 1993. Since that time, he has worked directly with patients in addition to aiding academia. He has served as an associate professor, professor and faculty member in higher education as well as author of multiple book chapters and scholarly published pieces in psychology.
